High Intensity Support

Skilled support for complex care needs, delivered with compassion and confidence
At Kalon Meraki, we understand that high intensity support isn’t just about clinical tasks — it’s about trust, dignity, and delivering care that honours each individual’s needs and preferences.
Module 1 of the NDIS High Intensity Support Skills Descriptors includes care for people with complex health needs who require regular and skilled support to manage critical daily care tasks. This care must be delivered by trained and competent workers under appropriate supervision.
Our team is proud to offer highly trained, compassionate support workers and nurses who are qualified and experienced in providing Module 1 supports safely and respectfully — whether in-home, in respite at Myka Place, or out in the community.
What is Covered in High Intensity Module 1?
Module 1 includes daily support for participants with the following complex needs:
1. Complex Bowel Care
Including manual evacuation, rectal medications, enemas or stoma support beyond basic personal care.
2. Enteral Feeding & Nutrition
Supports via PEG/PEJ/NG tube, including administration of formula, water, and medications — as well as monitoring, troubleshooting, and safety planning.
3. Tracheostomy Care
Ongoing care for individuals with a tracheostomy, including cleaning, suctioning, humidification, and emergency management.
4. Urinary Catheter Management
Care for indwelling or suprapubic catheters, including drainage bag changes, monitoring, infection risk minimisation, and safe support with personal care.
5. Subcutaneous Injections
Supports for medications such as insulin, including safe administration, blood glucose monitoring, and recognition of hypo/hyperglycaemia.
How We Support Participants with High Intensity Needs
At Kalon Meraki, we offer:
• Comprehensive clinical onboarding with a Registered Nurse for all high-intensity participants
• Individualised support plans and risk management plans based on NDIS guidelines
• Ongoing training and competency assessments for support workers delivering these tasks
• Regular RN oversight, review, and escalation pathways
• Clear communication with families, GPs, and allied health teams
Whether your loved one is transitioning from hospital, requiring new clinical care, or already has complex needs, we work collaboratively to ensure the highest standard of support.
Our Staff Are Highly Trained & Monitored
We don’t just tick boxes — we build teams that know what they’re doing and care while doing it. All staff providing High Intensity Support at Kalon Meraki:
• Have completed NDIS-endorsed High Intensity Support training (aligned to Module 1 descriptors)
• Undergo face-to-face and scenario-based clinical training
• Are assessed by a Clinical Nurse Supervisor before delivering care
• Complete regular refreshers and competency re-checks
• Receive support and mentoring from our in-house clinical governance team
We also work closely with families to ensure support is personalised — not just clinical, but compassionate and empowering.
Who Can Access High Intensity Supports?
These supports are available to:
• NDIS participants with funding for Assistance with Daily Life (Core) that includes high intensity support
• Participants requiring a mix of nursing and disability support
• Families seeking continuity between hospital, respite, and home
• Participants at Myka Place or in our community-based programs with complex medical needs
Not sure if you're funded for this type of support? We can help you understand your plan or advocate for the right funding with your Support Coordinator or planner.
